Johnstone Strait Port McNeill

Port McNeill

As it turned out, we did decide to extend our stay in Port McNeill for a while. The auto-parts store in town was able to help us with the water maker. In fact, they made up a temporary replacement high-pressure hose for David on the spot Thursday afternoon prompting us to brag about how easy the fix had been to some friends before actually trying to install the new hose – we should have waited. To make a long story as short as possible, the threads on the connectors they provided weren't the same as the ones on the high-pressure pump so new ones had to be ordered and, because Monday is a holiday in BC, they won't be in until Tuesday. But things worked out for the best because, while we were deciding where to go in the meantime, some friends we'd met last year in Desolation Sound arrived in Port McNeill on their way south from Alaska.

We got together with Bob and Sherry and their friends, Larry and Karen from the boat Panta Rhei, Friday night at a local restaurant, and again Saturday night aboard their beautiful Valiant 47, Ponderosa – Larry and Karen having left earlier in the morning on their way south back to Seattle. It was great to see them again and learn about their trip to Alaska through stories and amazing photographs. Clearly the best of our Pacific Northwest cruising is yet to come and will be well worth the time and effort it takes to get there, including several cold and grey summer days spent in The Broughtons.
